WN: The video is beautifully presented and wonderfully hopeful! Dr. Gabor Maté is an amazingly wise and compassionate healer.
TAKE NOTE: It is free to view these next two days.
There is also much of interest and help on the SAND (Science and Nonduality) website. We read there:
The mission of SAND is to forge a new paradigm in spirituality, one that is not dictated by religious dogma, but that is rather based on timeless wisdom traditions of the world, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience.
“Religious dogma” in Western culture is sadly disparaged as much as “religion” in general. A growing consort of spiritual seekers self identify as SBNR: Spiritual but not Religious. A great study by friend and theologian Linda Mercadante in the North American context is: Belief without Borders: Inside the Minds of the Spiritual but not Religious.
Linda challenges us nonetheless to embrace the form of religious dogma to in fact maximize spiritual freedom. Or as Saint Paul joyfully declares in Galatians 5:1:
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Else, there is the tendency to throw out the baby with the bath water: the ultimate form of spiritual freedom: in Christ with the universally-espoused spirit of freedom. For there is no full freedom without form.
Linda says: Of course, enter into the wading pool of spiritual freedom, for there is indeed warmth and liberation there. But to sound the full depths of spiritual freedom, one must go further into the (paradoxically) boundless ocean of mystical union with Christ.
Saint Paul, Christianity’s greatest theologian, was also one of the world’s greatest mystics and purveyors of spiritual freedom. He was also with Jesus the greatest revolutionary in history. This is beautifully presented by Sir Larry Siedentop in: Inventing the Individual: The Origins Of Western Liberalism.
about:
The movie can be watched 24/7 during the week of June 8-14. Each talk will be broadcast for 24hrs after it goes live. After that, it will be placed on the All-Access membership area for one year.
Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live, the way we love and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds. Dr. Maté gives us a new vision: a trauma-informed society in which parents, teachers, physicians, policy-makers and legal personnel are not concerned with fixing behaviors, making diagnoses, suppressing symptoms and judging, but seek instead to understand the sources from which troubling behaviors and diseases spring in the wounded human soul.
* With this film, we hope to touch many people, begin a conversation, and develop a common understanding about how trauma impacts our individual lives, communities and society as a whole.*
