A PEBBLE IN MY SHOE

This was written by my friend, Bill Thiessen. It speaks its own profound truth.

A PEBBLE IN MY SHOE

An irritation.
It happened again (on Saturday). It happened to the Lord as well—often.
It happens on the road.

I was leisurely cycling through the parking lot
Stopped in the shade to send a message
He comes to invade my space yards away.
Why?

His bike is loaded with his possessions
He settles down on the sidewalk
Begins munching on meaningless crackers.

Is that all you need?
That is all I can afford.
I wanted a Wendy’s burger

I apologize: I have no money with me
If you would be here later
I would come back and go the Wendy’s with you.

That is alright, sir; that is alright
Thanks for the offer.

You have a job?
No, I was able to get yard jobs
Not anymore; the season’s ending

Unease.
Sunday comes
I hear about becoming “fishers of men”.

Not sure what that means today.
Did I miss the mark on Saturday?
Then I got to hear about speed bumps, stones on the road

Jesus had a style which is our model
What did He do with stones in his sandals?
With inadvertent interruptions?

“Come, follow me
I will teach you
What to do with encounters, awkward or not”.

I may have missed the mark.
I have much yard work to do.
I wonder: did he have a cell phone? 09/25/16
