Preparing Formerly Incarcerated Returning Citizens as Part of the Crime Prevention Solution

Fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Convention and Criminal Justice, Kyoto Japan, 7 - 12 March, 2021

International CURE Conference, San José Costa Rica, 2017

WN: Charles Thornton became a friend through our attending International CURE Conferences together: once in San José Costa Rica (2017), another time in Kigali Rwanda (2018). With COVID in between, both seem a remote time ago.

He has been highly innovative in his work, which you may briefly read about by clicking on his name. One such was inducing a change of nomenclature for ex-prisoners, in favour of returning citizens. The change, a brilliant innovation!, has caught on in the United States and elsewhere.

A great documentary of his work amongst “returning citizens” was done a few years ago: Charles Thornton — Returning Citizens Doc.

In his more recent role as Special Assistant at the DC (District of Columbia) Office of Human Rights, he was asked to prepare a presentation on his current work for the above Conference.

It is well worth the viewing!
